How to Find TikTok Shop Affiliates (and Get Them to Say Yes)
By ShopSlayer TeamPublished Last updated
Key takeaways
- Find Creators in the Affiliate Center is where you search, save, message and invite affiliates.
- Filter by product category first. It only shows people who have sold or promoted in that category recently.
- Follower count matters less than reliability. Look at sample fulfilment and how often they post.
- Watch an affiliate's videos before inviting. On desktop you do this by scanning a QR code with the TikTok app.
- The other way is to let affiliates come to you. Some campaigns on ShopSlayer reach 100 opt-ins in under an hour.
There are two ways to get affiliates for your product. You can go looking for them, or you can make it easy for them to find you.
Most sellers start with the first, spend a week sending messages, and get a handful of replies. This guide covers how to do that search properly in Seller Center, and then the second way, which is where we spend our time.
Where to search#
In Seller Center, click Affiliate Marketing to open the Affiliate Center. Find Creators is in the left menu. The page has filters at the top and a list of affiliates below.
From any profile you can do three things: invite them to a Target Collaboration, save them with the heart button for later, or message them.
The filters that matter#
There are a lot of filters. These are the ones we'd reach for first.
| Filter | What it tells you | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Product category | They sold or promoted in your category in the last 30 days | They already speak to your buyer |
| Timely compliance | Their sample fulfilment is well above average | They post when they receive a sample |
| Frequent posts | They publish a lot of videos or LIVEs | Active accounts, not dormant ones |
| High response | They read and reply to messages quickly | Your invitation gets seen |
| GMV and units sold | What they sold in the last 30 days | Proof they can convert |
| Brand collaborations | Shops they promoted in the last 30 days | Spot people who sell for your competitors |
Follower filters are there too, in bands from 1K to over 100K, along with follower age and gender. TikTok's guidebook notes that female followers are the largest buyer group for beauty, clothing and home.
Don't skip watching their videos#
Numbers tell you whether someone sells. They don't tell you how.
Open the affiliate's profile and you'll find a QR code. Scan it with the TikTok app to see their content. It is a clumsy step, because video viewing isn't available on desktop yet, but it is the one that saves you from sending samples to someone whose videos you would never want next to your brand.
How to reach out#
Messages live under Creator messages at the top of the Affiliate Center. Inside a conversation you can send a product card, which the affiliate can add to their showcase in a tap, and see or create Target invitations for them.
Keep the first message short: what the product is, the commission, whether there is a sample, and what you would like them to make. An affiliate with a full inbox decides in one line.
Bigger is not always better#
TikTok's 2023 guidebook says that for sales goals you'll generally do better with affiliates above 10,000 followers, and above 100,000 for brand awareness.
Our experience in the Philippines is more mixed. Brands on ShopSlayer screen in very different ways. One baby-care brand accepted only mothers, and 121 of its 182 applicants qualified. Another approved only affiliates above a certain sales level. Both are reasonable. But the brands that filter hardest on size and past sales are also the ones that end up with the fewest videos, because they have approved so few people.
If your goal is volume of content for a new product, we'd approve more generously and judge on reliability. If your goal is sales from a proven product, filter on GMV.
The other way: let them come to you#
Searching and messaging one by one works. It is also slow.
The alternative is to publish a campaign where affiliates are already looking. On ShopSlayer, a brand posts one campaign with its brief, commission and sample offer, and affiliates opt in.
How fast it fills depends on the product. Most campaigns now fill in about three days. Back in July, when our pool was much smaller, skincare campaigns took four to nine days to reach about 100 opt-ins. By October a baby-care campaign got there in under an hour. Mother and baby products fill fastest for us, because a large share of our active affiliates are mothers.
You still choose who gets a sample. You just start from a list of people who have already put their hand up.
