TikTok Shop Free Samples: How to Get Affiliates to Actually Post
By ShopSlayer TeamPublished Last updated
Key takeaways
- You have 7 days to review a sample request before TikTok cancels it.
- After delivery, the affiliate has 14 days to post a video that stays live for 3 days, or pin the product in a LIVE for more than 10 minutes.
- You can remind each affiliate once, and only from day five after delivery.
- Affiliates who never post lose access to samples, so the "From reliable creators" filter is worth using.
- Sending a sample is not the finish line. In one campaign we ran, fewer than half the approved affiliates had posted six weeks in.
You approve forty sample requests on a Monday. By Friday the parcels are out. Three weeks later you count the videos and get eleven.
If that sounds familiar, the samples were never the problem. Free samples on TikTok Shop are easy to switch on and easy to give away. Getting a video back for each one takes a bit more intent.
This guide covers the rules TikTok sets for sellers in the Philippines, then what we have seen work across campaigns on ShopSlayer. We'll say "affiliates" throughout. TikTok's own pages call them creators.
How free samples work on TikTok Shop#
You offer a product as a free sample. An affiliate requests it, you approve it, and you ship it like any other order. From the day it is delivered, the affiliate has a fixed window to post shoppable content with your product link.
Samples work in both collaboration types. In Open Collaboration, affiliates find your product and request a sample. In Target Collaboration, you offer the sample as part of an invitation you send.
The deadlines that matter#
Most of the program comes down to four numbers.
| What | Deadline | Who it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Review a sample request | 7 days, then TikTok cancels it | Seller |
| Post content after delivery | 14 days | Affiliate |
| Keep the video public | At least 3 days | Affiliate |
| Send a reminder | From day 5 after delivery, once per affiliate | Seller |
For a LIVE, the affiliate has to pin the product in the shopping bag for more than 10 minutes. If neither a video nor a LIVE happens inside 14 days, TikTok marks the sample incomplete.
Setting up samples so the right people request them#
All sample rules now sit on one page in the Affiliate Center, called Sample Settings. There are four controls, and each one answers a different question.
How many will you give away? Set a sample stock limit per product. Samples come out of your real inventory, so an unlimited setting during a sale week is how sellers end up out of stock (ask us how we know).
Which variants? Use SKU preference to leave out your most expensive ones.
Who can ask? Creator eligibility lets you limit requests by category, follower count, 30-day sales or average views. Affiliates who don't qualify never see the request button.
Who gets approved without you? Auto-approval passes any request that meets your rules, up to a cap. An affiliate who meets them sees a "100% approval" tag, which tends to bring in more of the people you want.
Here is how the cap plays out with a quota of two:
| Request | Meets all rules? | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| A | Yes | Auto-approved |
| B | No | Goes to manual review |
| C | Yes | Auto-approved |
| D | Yes | Goes to manual review, because the quota is used |
When you review by hand, the filter we'd reach for first is From reliable creators. It shows the top 20% of affiliates by samples posted against samples received.
Shipping without the extra work#
Click Arrange shipment on an approved request and it moves to Seller Center, where it ships like a regular order. Filter by the tag "Free Sample from Seller" to find them.
One setting saves real money. Combine sample orders is on by default: requests from the same affiliate and the same warehouse, approved within five minutes of each other, go out as one parcel. If an affiliate has asked for three of your products, approve all three in one sitting.
What happens when affiliates don't post#
TikTok keeps score. Every affiliate has a sample post rate: samples posted divided by samples received. A low rate limits how many samples they can request, and a rate of 0% triggers a restriction on new samples altogether.
That helps you choose better next time. It does not get this campaign's videos made.
What we've seen on real campaigns#
One brand on ShopSlayer opened a campaign and got 250 affiliates opting in. It hand-picked 30 and sent each a sample, with three videos required per affiliate. Six weeks later, 13 of the 30 had posted at least one video, and 29 of the 90 required videos were in.
Careful selection did not fix follow-through. Two things we changed afterwards did more.
First, we started matching the ask to the product. When another brand wanted three videos for a ₱250 item, we had them cut it to two before the campaign went live. A heavy ask on a small product puts affiliates off before they request.
Second, we stopped treating approval as the last step. An affiliate who gets a clear brief on day one, and a nudge before the deadline, posts more often than one who gets a parcel and silence.
So our advice is plain. Approve quickly, because the sooner the sample lands the more likely the video gets made. Save your one TikTok reminder for the affiliates who are close to the deadline. And tell people exactly what you want them to film.
How to run this in ShopSlayer#
Seller Center tells you a sample was delivered. ShopSlayer is where you see what happened next.
- Publish your campaign with the brief and the number of videos you need.
- Affiliates opt in on ShopSlayer and read the brief before they request the sample.
- Review and approve sample requests in Manage Requests, once your Seller Center is connected.
- Watch each affiliate's count of videos submitted against videos required.
- Review each video and approve it, reject it or send feedback.
Affiliates also get email reminders from ShopSlayer as the campaign moves along, so the follow-up doesn't depend on someone remembering to send a message.
