What Is TikTok Shop Affiliate? A Plain Guide for Philippine Sellers
By ShopSlayer TeamPublished Last updated
Key takeaways
- TikTok Shop Affiliate lets other people sell your product on TikTok for a commission you set.
- You pay only when a sale goes through. TikTok deducts the commission and pays the affiliate.
- There are two ways to work with affiliates: Open Collaboration (anyone can join) and Target Collaboration (invite only).
- TikTok recommends new sellers start with Open Collaboration.
- Opt-ins are not posts. Expect a gap between affiliates who join and affiliates who make a video.
Most sellers we talk to already know what an affiliate is. A friend's shop went from quiet to sold out because a handful of people on TikTok kept posting about it, and now they want the same.
What they are less sure about is the machinery: who pays whom, where you set it up, and why the first campaign rarely goes the way the success stories do.
This is the plain version. TikTok calls them creators; we'll say affiliates.
What TikTok Shop Affiliate is#
It is the program inside TikTok Shop that lets other people sell your product for you. An affiliate adds your product to their showcase, features it in a video or a LIVE, and earns a commission on each order that comes from their content.
You decide the commission rate. TikTok tracks the sale, deducts the commission from the order, and pays the affiliate. Nothing is owed until something sells.
The two ways to work with affiliates#
TikTok calls these Collaborations. They used to be called Plans.
| Open Collaboration | Target Collaboration | |
|---|---|---|
| Who can promote | Any affiliate who finds your product | Only affiliates you invite |
| How it starts | You add products and set a rate | You send an invitation with products, rates and an end date |
| Good for | Reach, and learning who performs | Working with people you already know deliver |
TikTok's advice to new sellers is to start with Open Collaboration, then add Target Collaboration as you build relationships. You can run both at once. If a product is in both, an invited affiliate earns the Target rate.
How to start#
- Log in to TikTok Shop Seller Center.
- Click Affiliate Marketing at the top. This opens the Affiliate Center.
- Choose Collaboration in the left menu, then Open or Target.
- Add products, set a commission rate, and decide whether to offer free samples.
That is the whole setup. It takes about ten minutes, which is part of the problem: it is so easy to switch on that sellers expect the results to be just as quick.
What your first campaign will really look like#
Here is a number from one of our own campaigns. Two days after launch it had 92 affiliates opted in. Only 37 of them had requested the sample.
Nothing was wrong with the product. Joining takes one tap, and requesting a sample, waiting for it and filming it takes effort. Every step loses people, so plan your numbers backwards from the videos you want, not forwards from the opt-ins you get.
Two other things we have learned the hard way. Stock matters more than anyone expects: a campaign stalls the day the product affiliates are posting about runs out. And one product is enough to start. Sellers who open their whole catalogue at once struggle to tell which product affiliates want.
Where ShopSlayer fits#
Seller Center is where the affiliate program lives. ShopSlayer sits on top of it and handles the campaign side: getting affiliates to your campaign, giving them a brief, and seeing who posted.
- You publish one campaign with a brief.
- Affiliates on ShopSlayer opt in.
- You approve sample requests and track each affiliate's videos in one place.
Commission and payouts stay on TikTok Shop. We don't touch them.
